GateWay Impressive in Win Against PC Bears
GateWay easily dispatched Phoenix College on Wednesday at home, 10-0. The Geckos got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Bartle and Solinsky hit back to back triples and Solinsky scored after tagging up on a sac fly by Skinner. GateWay added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning which got started with a lead off triple hit by Meister who scored after the Bears committed an error. Solinsky singled to the left side of the infield to score Barnard and Mallee was able to score on a balk, bringing the score to 5-0 after three innings. The Geckos went on to score three more runs in the fifth inning. To finish the game off in the sixth an impressive three additional triples were hit by LaCelle, Barnard, and Maize. GateWay tallied 12 hits in the game including and impressive, and likely single game record breaking, seven triples. Solinsky, Bartle, Barnard, and Meister each collected two hits for and Solinsky went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.
Kao began the game for GateWay. The starter allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Yanke started on the mound for PC Bears who gave up eight hits and eight runs (six earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking one. Sluiter threw three innings of scoreless ball for GateWay in relief. The reliever gave up five hits, striking out two and walking one.
Geckos Victorious Over Okotok Dawgs
The Geckos were triumphant over the Okotok Dawgs 6-3 on Thursday in game one of a split doublheader. The Dawgs jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Whiteford doubled, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored two runs. GateWay captured the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the fifth after Coggins doubled down the left field line, Mallee doubled down the left field line, Hubert singled down the left field line, and Henry tripled down the right field line, each scoring one run. The Geckos tallied 13 hits in the game. Henry drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Mallee led the team with three hits in five at bats. Matteucci, Hubert, and LaCelle each collected multiple hits as well.
Giddings earned the win for the Geckos. The pitcher surrendered four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking none. Guedes stepped on the hill first for Okotok. Cowgill collected the save after throwing three scoreless innings, giving up zero hits and walks, and striking out three.
Hits Aplenty in GateWay Victory Over Langley Blaze
Bats were blistered as GateWay took down Langley Blaze 14-8 on Thursday in game two of the split doubleheader. The Geckos collected 16 hits, while Langley Blaze had nine. Solinsky collected four hits in six at bats in the win. Langley opened the scoring in the first after Laird singled, scoring one run. GateWay flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Hubert that drove in two. The Geckos added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Wickes hit a sacrifice fly, Solinsky singled down the left field line, and Warman hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. GateWay collected 16 hits in the game. Bartle drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Hubert and Iverson each collected multiple hits and Solinsky stole two bases. The Geckos ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
Mendoza stepped on the mound first for GateWay. The pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking three. So stepped on the hill first for Langley PR Blaze. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Tromp threw one inning of no-run ball for GateWay in relief to secure the victory.
