Game Goes Down to the Wire as Geckos Lose to Coyotes on Final Play
A walk-off left GateWay on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat to Chandler-Gilbert on Friday night at CGCC. Both teams were strong on the bump, the Chandler-Gilbert pitchers struck out 13, while GateWay sat down 10. A two RBI single by Mallee put the Geckos on the board in the top of the third. The Coyotes captured the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the ninth after Gregory singled down the right field line and Perry singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Loria led things off on the mound for GateWay. The starter allowed seven hits and one run over seven and one-third innings, striking out nine and walking one. Arlich stepped on the hill first for Chandler-Gilbert. The lefty allowed four hits and two runs over seven and one-third innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Mallee drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Geckos with two runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Meister, Maize, Mallee, and Warman each collected one hit for GateWay.
GateWay Geckos Vanquish Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes in High-Scoring Affair
Bats were blistered as GateWay beat Chandler-Gilbert 10-7 on Saturday night at CGCC. The Geckos 2026 collected 13 hits, while the Coyotes had eight. Solinsky, Henry, and Lacelle at the bottom of GateWay lineup combined for seven of the team's 13 hits in their victory. They scored four runs and drove in three. GateWay got on the board in the third inning after Mallee doubled, scoring two runs. Chandler-Gilbert scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fleck singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Borel homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Anguiano earned the win for the Geckos. The pitcher allowed six hits and seven runs (three earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two. Molony stepped on the bump first for GateWay. The opener surrendered two hits and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking none. George began the game for Chandler-Gilbert. The righty surrendered seven hits and six runs over three innings, striking out two and walking three. GateWay amassed 13 hits in the game. Solinsky and Henry were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for while hitting back-to-back. Barnard, Henry, Meister, and Mallee each drove in two runs. Maize collected two hits in five at bats. GateWay had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Bartle and Mallee led the team with three walks each. Henry and Mallee each stole multiple bases for GateWay.
GateWay Geckos will travel to Phoenix College to face the Bears for their next game on Tuesday, March 17th. First pitch at 2pm.
