GateWay Geckos took Tuesday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 10-9 walk-off victory in the 10th inning over the Monroe Tribunes. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the tenth when LaCelle singled, scoring one run. Both offenses were strong at the plate as GateWay collected 12 hits and Monroe nine in the high-scoring affair. The Tribunes got on the board in the top of the first inning after Matos tripled, and Cannon singled down the right field line, each scoring one run. Monroe committed an error, which helped the Geckos tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, GateWay went back into the lead after Mallee doubled down the left field line, and Coggins laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. The Geckos struggled coming out of the bullpen allowing the Tribunes to flip the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 9-4. GateWay tied the game in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a fielder's choice by Barnard, and a double by Solinsky.
Tromp earned the win for the Geckos. The reliever allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one. Fragozo opened the game for GateWay. The starter gave up five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out four. Zeiser led things off on the bump for Monroe. The starter surrendered three hits and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking four. Sluiter and Brajevich each appeared in relief for GateWay Geckos 2026.
GateWay accumulated 12 hits in the game. Maize led the way with four hits in five at bats. Solinsky and Mallee each drove in two runs. LaCelle collected two hits in six at bats. Barnard led the team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game.
Next up for GateWay is a conference game at Chandler-Gilbert CC on Friday night, first pitch at 6:30pm.
