The GateWay Geckos Men's Soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw on the road against Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Tuesday evening at the Coyote Soccer Pitch. After a scoreless first half, the match opened up with all four goals coming in the second period, including a quick pair from the Geckos to briefly take the lead.
Chandler-Gilbert struck first in the 53rd minute with a long-range shot, but GateWay answered back with back-to-back goals from sophomore forward Ferdinand Aoci. Aoci buried the equalizer in the 64th minute off a setup from Alonso Ahumada, then added his second just a minute later with assists from Edgar Urrutia and Fernando Hernandez to push the Geckos ahead 2-1. The Coyotes found the late equalizer in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick, forcing the draw.
Goalkeeper Elias Hernandez was outstanding in net, recording nine saves against 11 shots on goal to preserve the result. GateWay finished with 11 total shots, matching Chandler-Gilbert's offensive output in a tightly contested match. With the tie, the Geckos continue to show grit in conference play and will look to build momentum heading into their next contest.
